The Mars probe Curiosity has finally landed safely, after a complex and intricate landing procedure which involved deploying a parachute and then firing retro rockets before being lowered onto the surface.
The probe, at 1,982 pounds (the size and weight of a Mini Cooper) is the heaviest thing we have sent to Mars yet. The very fact it got their is amazing and a testament to the skill of the Nasa engineers who designed and built it.
It is the most complex probe sent into Space yet. Its mission is to seek out new life and new…..sorry….new evidence of the once abundant liquid water which flowed on Mars and more importantly life – living or fossilied.
Its surprising this mission hasn’t been more in the headlines for the right reasons, potentially confirming that past life has evolved on a seperate rock to our own – and the mind blowing implications this has on everything we as a human race hold dear.
Instead, coverage has been more focused on how much money would be wasted of it didnt make it to the surface. Typical shoddy press.
