A new series of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding started on Channel 4, last night.
The opener didn’t disappoint, with 2 of the most hideous dresses ever commited to pattern. Spangley, brightly multicoloured, one of them had a huge pineapple on the front and the other, a palm tree. Even top Gypsy Seamstress of choice Thelma Madine looked put out by them.
Later, the followup wedding dress was more tasteful, featuring a cat theme.
I also learnt something, that big multiple tier wedding cakes are usually made out of polystyrene so they stand up better, majesty sense really.
Also on the show, a 19 year old lad driving around in a high powered sports car. With a cheeky grin he leant out of the window and said “its my first car!”. Before roaring off in a cloud of squealing tires.
Travellers are normally subtle about money transactions but this programme flaunts their wealth like MTV’s Cribs.
It gets more OTT every series but it is still compulsive viewing.
