radio one big weekend ticket giveaway

According to the News And Star rag, the Cumbrian economy benefited to the tune of £1.7 million semolian’s off of the back of Radio One Big Weekend in May of this year.

A follow up event is being planned for next year by the local Council you try and repeat that success. I wonder though what kind of an event they would plan? And who they would get? Previous events in the city of been organised by Eddie Stobart.

Maybe a triumphant headliner comeback for local band So-what! could be in order with their no 118 peaking 1995 chart hit “Blue Army”. They might even get Michael Knighton to come back and do the rap!

For the uninitiated, So What! wrote a song for the local Football team when they won the 3rd Division Championship back in 1995 and it was played over-and-over again at Brunton Park, whilst all of the away fans pissed themselves laughing.

Anyway back to the planned followup Radio event, final word should goto ‘the man with no name” posting on the newsandstar message board regarding a previous post suggesting they should hold the next ‘Big Weekend’ style event one at Bitts Park :

“imagine all the scum and kids hanging around if the venue was held in carlisle.
at least when it was at the airport it was inaccesible to them.”

Touche!
