This first award in this new series goes to Star Trek Vulcan Science officer never-to-be Commander Sonak.
Who? You might ask. Sonak? Don’t you mean Spock? Hell no! Before Nimoy agreed to return as Spock and the Motion Picture was still just “The Series – phase II”. The Enterprise was to have a new Vulcan Science Officer called – Sonak, played by Jon Rashad Kamal.
Problem was, when Nimoy came back onboard (literally) for the movie project, their were now two Vulcan Science Officers. What to do……! What to do………..! Ooh I know have the lesser known Vulcan die horrifically transformed into a wibbling wobbling plate of jello, due to a transporter malfunction.
Poor Sonak, poor Jon Rashad Kamal. He didn’t go onto do much after this either…..!
So having been told he was going to replace the most famous alien on TV, probably to become world famous as an actor in a role trailblazed by Nimoy, he got a two minute cameo and a death which wouldn’t have looked out of place in Cronenberg’s The Fly.
Quote of the day has to goto the unfeeling Star Fleet transport officer back at Star Fleet Command. “What we got back didn’t live long…… Fortunately!”
Wow! RIP Sonak ! What makes this kind of worse is that the Transporters were malfunctioning and the probable reason Sonak attempted to beam up was, because 20 minutes earlier Admiral Kirk had tore him a new A-Hole at Star Fleet Command for not being up on the Enterprise. Kirk then took the shuttle upto the Enterprise. KIRK YOU VULCAN MURDERER!!!!
Poor Sonak, we salute you for being a good sport with our first ‘Buddy! Didn’t you just draw the short straw award’ – no.1
