Whoa ! didn’t see that coming although she clearly hadn’t been well for a long long time.
Somehow the tragedy of that soulful voice has been lost somewhere between all the drink and drug taking.
Having watched her in concert recently she wasn’t right and looked completely out of her tree, singing like Vic Reeves in the club style.
Everybody was waiting for that great come back tour and new album which showed she had conquered her demons, but it never came. She became better known for her being hammered rolling out of nightclubs looking like the walking dead and her marriage to her drug dealing pimp Blake Fielder-Civil.
That said, Back to Black was a classic album and Winehouse will take her place amongst the great’s, even though she only released 2 albums and did very little else. It wasn’t due to years and years in the business or record busting music sales over many years that will seal her place amongst the greats, more her wasted precocious talent.
“I’m of the school of thought where, if you can’t sort something out for yourself, no one can help you. Rehab is great for some people but not others.”
Amy Winehouse 1983 – 2011
i disagree mr spaceman, amy will never be classed as one of the great ones, she was neither original or a trailblazer or even a style icon, her lasting legacy is one of excess and how to look as bad as possible in newspapers, she had a couple of ok songs and one good album, but lets be honest her life style overshadowed her talent, and she would never have got the eclaim she received without her lifestyle, she is in the same league as other so called greats such as jordan, kerry katona, pete dorcerty and even to a certain degree princess diana(who is harrys real dad, come to think about it!!)pure newspaper fodder, when we think of the greats we conjour up images of elvis, joplin, morrison, holly, valens, lennon.jones, hendrix, it begs the question….can you really place amy among such greats???,,,,,of course not,in my mind she was rather like jade goody, her image as a screw up far exceeeded her talent.summing up amys life and death was played out thru the british media to the british public as one long sucide note,i only hope she finds the peace in death that she clearly could not find in life.
