The most exciting thing to happen in Carlisle since the Radio One Big Weekend came and went and we all crawled back under our stones, is the announcement that the first part of Carlisle Northern Development Route (CNDR) will open next month, according to the News and Star rag.
The first section, between the M6 and Kingmoor Park, is due to open on August 10 2011 and the whole route, currently running ahead of schedule, should be carrying traffic by April 2012. Yipee!
Like a bypass for a congential heart attack victim this road is the best thing to happen here in years. It means that traffic from the west of the County will finally be able to hit the main Industrial sector of Carlisle and the M6 without going through the city which will ease the congestion in the City like King Kong’s first dump of the day.
Interesting video on Council website of the route of the road.
