Crazy British Weather

singing in the rain gene kelly

It seems to me that the great crazy British weather (which has never been particularly stable) has taken a turn for the bizarre this year.

As I type this the third rainshower of today has just started after an inital bright spell. In fact, yesterday got out rather nice in the afternoon after a poor start. Today seems to be heading the same way. Very strange weather,

Anyway, this makes appropriate clothes choice a sheer nightmare. Do I dress for rain, sun, warm, cold. It really makes your head spin when you try to plan ahead.

April was the driest and hottest month on record in the UK.

In the North, record rainfall has fallen since the beginning of May. Meanwhile, the South hasn’t had much rain since February and the crops down there are suffering too! Cue food price rises on top of inflation busting price increase already!

Talk about a country with many divides between north and south – class, health, earnings and now weather!

So is this global warming in action? Or just another terrible English summer?

In the remake of “Singing in the Rain – Global Warming” which is happening as we speak, (in my head) Gene Kelly takes to the street with his umbrella to sploshing around in the puddles rhythmically. As he grabs the lamp post lightening strikes it leaving only a smoking umbrella and pair of shoes on the floor. The sun then comes out whilst it is still raining. Instant classic me thinks!

Anyhoo, we don’t ask for much but one or too nice rain free days here in the North would be great! Our Southern cousins though are no doubt wishing for the opposite.

We could happily swap.
