Only 2 thirds of the Radio 1 Big Weekend to be staged at Carlisle Airport on 14 / 15 May went to Cumbrian people with an allocation system which has seen individuals receiving more than one set of tickets. The ticket allocating system was a complete sham to be exploited by the usual unscrupulous touts. A bloke from my work got 4 pairs of tickets…. (yes count ‘em) 4 sets of tickets which he can’t sell or give away if the BBC blurb about ID’ing ticket holders on the gate is to be believed.
BBC should have been clever to the tricks people play and only allowed one set of tickets per address rather than email address. Even if they stop people from entering the event if they cannot prove they are the ticket holder, the ticket is still wasted anyway.
More local people will miss out on the chance to see Lady Gaga, Foo Fighters and Black eye peas than needed to, but it could have been better handled. Shame on you BBC.
